Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings — John F. Kennedy ( . . . continued from home page) The Foundation is committed to working with Federal, State and local government agencies; charitable organizations; and local community leaders to harness the unimaginable potential of government leasing and development activities to not only significantly lower government facility costs but also generate extremely significant support for charitable programs, programs that make a real difference in the lives of those in need. With an enormous real estate portfolio of approximately 450,000 buildings, 3 billion square feet of space, and 650 million acres of land worth hundreds of billions of dollars, the United States Government is one of the world's largest property owners. The government leases another 200 million square feet of building space and 900,000 acres of land. This real estate is under the custody and control of at least 30 federal agencies and overseen by numerous congressional committees and subcommittees. When you add the buildings, land, and millions of square feet leased by State, County and City governments the amount of real property owned and leased by government agencies nationwide grows exponentially. Public buildings and land are an integral part of carrying out Federal, State and Local government operations. They should be viewed and used as capital resource tools to support agencies' goals and missions. They should be strategically acquired, managed, and disposed of so that taxpayers' return on investment is maximized. To that end the Life Foundation has developed several structures to harness the potential benefits from government real estate operations for taxpayers and those in need. In many instances, either out of necessity or otherwise, many of the benefits from government real estate activities have been transferred to private developers. Our structures transfer these benefits back where they belong, to the government agencies and the communities they serve. The potential to simultaneously generate savings for taxpayers and funds for worthy charitable endeavors has been proven by the Life Foundation to be truly staggering. One of our buildings alone will not only generate tens of millions in government savings over time but also generate millions for direct charitable support over the same period. |
